Sweating for a Cause: Gray Duck CrossFit at Sweat for Vets in Mankato

Sweating for a Cause

Fitness is always better when it is backed by community, especially when it supports a local cause. On Saturday, September 12, the Gray Duck CrossFit crew headed just down the road to the All Star Nutrition parking lot for the annual Sweat for Vets event. We have participated in this event for a few years now, and it continues to be one of our favorite ways to connect with the local Mankato fitness community.

A Connection to the Military and Hero WODs

Events like Sweat for Vets fit right into our core values as a local fitness community. While CrossFit started as a way to build broad functional fitness, its culture grew up alongside the military. Early adopters were service members, law enforcement, and first responders who needed a training program that prepared them for real-world demands.

That shared history is why CrossFit gyms regularly run "Hero WODs" to honor fallen service members. Being able to return to this event year after year to raise funds for Mankato's local Veterans Court is something our members and coaches look forward to every fall.

The 30-Second Rogue Echo Bike Challenge

Check-in started at 9:00 AM, and the main parking lot community workout kicked off at 10:00 AM. Along with our athletes jumping into the group workout, the Gray Duck coaches set up a booth with a Rogue Echo Bike alongside the other local business vendors.

We challenged people at the event to hop on for a 30-second max calorie sprint. Thirty seconds might not sound long, but anyone who has jumped on an Echo Bike knows just how brutal that effort is. The athletes who stepped up to the table gave it everything they had, making for some fun competition as they pushed for the top spot on our leaderboard.

Wrapping Up the Challenge

Before the main event raffle drawings at 11:15 AM, we tallied up the final scores and pulled our raffle winner from the list of participants who took on the 30-second sprint. A huge shoutout to our top male and female calorie finishers, as well as our drawing winner. All three walked away with gift cards to All Star Nutrition to help keep their training, fuel, and recovery on point.

Thank You, Mankato Community

Thank you to All Star Nutrition for organizing another great morning in support of local veterans, and thanks to everyone who stopped by our table to bike, chat, or cheer people on. We are proud to be part of the Mankato community and look forward to continuing this tradition next year.
